Where do you eat?

We love to stay in the Tofte area, love to eat at Coho and Lockport, and want to hear ideas of other palces to eat. There are many new restaurants. What are yoru favoriets? Where to you go for a really nice meal?

Looking forward to your answers and ideas. Thanks.

Where do you eat?

We have always enjoyed the meals we have had in the restaurant at Bluefin Bay.

Where do you eat?

I haven%26#39;t been impressed with the BlueFin bay restaurants, but wold like to hear what others think.

I stay across the street at AmericInn, since they allow pooches.

I like the restaurant at the Cascade Lodge, about 18 miles up the shore, and then a few places in Grand Marais - Sven %26amp; Ole%26#39;s Pizza comes to mind.

If you go to Thunder Bay, we like the East Side Marios across from the InterCity Mall I believe. But the exchange rate has not been so favourable, so we haven%26#39;t gone that far for the past 2 years.

On our way up, we like to hit Judy%26#39;s Cafe in Two Harbours.

There used to be the Cross River Cafe just south along the shore, but I believed it burned down a few years back.

If we are talking about places up and down the shore, I want to mention that the Northern Lights Roadhouse in Beaver Bay is fun and has a great Sunday brunch. However, i like the atmosphere more than the food.

I would also like to know more about restaurants in Grand Marais. Has anyone been to the Angey Trout? It has been recommended to me, I thought it was the place with the big fish head on the building but that was the bait store.

Has anyone been to Chez Jude in Grand Marais? Heard it was good, too. Any news of some of the old standards like the Birchwood? For years, I would eat at the Blue Water Cafe but I think it changed hands or something, it just wasn%26#39;t the same last time I was there.

Thanks for all the advice.

I%26#39;ve walked past the Angry Trout, but never gone in.

I%26#39;m going for 5 or 6 days the first week of Nov. I%26#39;ll check the places out.

I%26#39;ve been told there%26#39;s lots of new food places on the shore since I went 12 months ago.

I had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant at Lutsen resort. Nice view of the lake.

P.S. These are not restaurants but certainly places where I like the food. Try Gunflint Mercantile where they sell homade and very fresh turtles. The caramel is freshly made with maple sugar, the pecanse are whole and very fresh, and the chocolate is esquisite. Also, Beth%26#39;s Fudge Shop really does have wonderful fudge. I go in December and do all my holiday shopping up there. They are all in Grand Marais.

North Shore eating spots--one of my favorite topics!

I%26#39;ve been to the Angry Trout many times, and it%26#39;s definitely worth a visit. Sorry DtwnMpls they won%26#39;t be open in early November. They close for the season in mid-October.

Another place I like in Grand Marais is The Pie Place which has some unique items on their menu as well as excellent (though pricey) pie. I didn%26#39;t get a chance to visit for breakfast but their menu looked good.

South of the Border Cafe provides an inexpensive, home-cooking type breakfast and lunch if you%26#39;re in the mood for that. It%26#39;s one of the few places in Grand Marais (at least it was last November) that still allows smoking, and the non-smoking room is smaller and in the back.

In Beaver Bay, I%26#39;ve also enjoyed dinner at the Lemon Wolf Cafe

Does anyone know where to get good walleye? I was in Grand Marais at a place I shall not name. I was so disappointed. This had been my standard place to go for years. They had opened up the upstairs and there were nice lake views. I ordered walley.

Only it was not walleye - I am sure of that. Now i am afraid to order walleye anywhere. I did have the walleye at Lutsen Resort. It was real and it was wonderful. Who elose has good walleye?

I remember reading a Duluth News-Tribune review of the Beaver Bay Lemon Wolf Cafe that praised their grilled walleye (they don%26#39;t fry stuff there). If you search the archive on their website you can find a summary of the review. I tried their steak the first of two visits there and haven%26#39;t been able to choose anything else so far.

Thanks. I will try the Lone Wolf it Beaver Bay. It is close to where I stay. I try to avoid fried food. We usually drive up to Grand Marais and would like to try some other areas. We usually stay in the Tofte-Lutsen area so this is convenient.
