Minnesota lake cabin with dog

We%26#39;ll be in Chicago in August visiting family, and are interested in spending a few days in the land of 10,000 lakes in a cabin that allows dogs. Would want to travel about a day%26#39;s drive (9-12 hours) from Chicago.

Any suggestions?

If you want to spend some time along Lake Superior - my pooch and I stay at the AmericInn in Tofte - about 80 miles n/e of Duluth along the shore.

BlueFin Bay nextdoor alows dogs in some of their suites too.

There are a ton of resorts in the Brainerd area, and many allow pets. Search for lakes like: Whitefish Chain, Gull Lake, Pelican Lake, or check the Brainerd Lakes Area website. Brainerd resorts are about 3 hours from Minneapolis, or about 10-11 from Chicago (depending on where in Chicago and how much traffic you hit)

Yes! The AmericInn in Tofte was wonderful! It was brand new when we stayed there in 1999 with our golden retriever after staying in one of the bug infested roach motels down the shores. Very nice hotel, pool, and the only rule is you can%26#39;t leave your dog in the room if you leave...but we took him everywhere and tons of places for them to swim along the shores. We even took him to Goosebury Falls and let him romp in the water and then up to Grand Marais and he swam everywhere we went. Otherwise we stayed at a place on the Gunflint Trail on the lake, huge cabin, dogs allowed to run free without a leash if they were behaved. Not sure if it%26#39;s there anymore after the fires though :( It wasn%26#39;t spendy either and you%26#39;re right on the lake. Otherwise almost any AmericInn has pet rooms. If you want a cabin though, google the north shore area by Duluth. TONS of little cabins that do allow dogs...just avoid anything that says MOTEL and book now. Cabins book fast all summer long up north....
