Girls' weekend in March ISO suggestions

We%26#39;ll be staying on University Ave W in mid March. We will have a rental car with GPS. I%26#39;m looking for entertainment suggestions for a Friday afternoon and dinner suggestion for something near St. Catherine State College - ethnic or regional favorite maybe, nothing too pricey.

Thank you.

Girls' weekend in March ISO suggestions

would you want to venture into downtown Minneapolis ?

there%26#39;s a few really fun spots I can think of downtown.

It would help to know what college you are actually referring to; there is no St. Catherine State College, at least not in St. Paul. I think you must be asking about The College of St. Catherine, also known as St. Kate%26#39;s:

http://www.stkate.edu/

However, you could be asking about St. Cloud State University, which is located about an hour away in St. Cloud, MN. I%26#39;m guessing you are asking about St. Kate%26#39;s. There is a great regional restaurant fairly close called Heartland. It%26#39;s a little pricey, but you can get around that by going to the Wine Bar, which is adjacent to the restaurant. On the website, scroll down to where it says ';Visit Heartland%26#39;s Award Winning Wine Bar';: http://www.heartlandrestaurant.com/

';would you want to venture into downtown Minneapolis ?';

Sure. I%26#39;m open to suggestions.

If you%26#39;ve ever heard of Tony %26amp; Tina%26#39;s Wedding, this performer who is at this cabaret/bar/restaurant called Jitters, is there x2-x3 Friday%26#39;s a month.

Located under the Times Restaurant, where you could do Fondue before, if you%26#39;d like.

I take out of town guests to see her, and they are amazed at her talents. 1/2 singer %26amp; 1/2 comedian

She hasn%26#39;t published her March schedule yet, but here%26#39;s the link:

612-617-1111 for rez

Her name is Erin Schwab, and performs with keyborder %26amp; guitar player and has awesome voice.

Her website is:

http://www.erinschwab.com/

There is no cover charge but the key is to call and get rez for tables up front near the stage. Get there around 9:15 - she starts around 9:30 p.m.

Make the rez about two weeks in advance to get good spots - the place fills up when she%26#39;s there.

Great martinis too !!

As for dinner before in Minneapolis -

maybe Bellanotte in Block E for Italian

http://www.bellanottempls.com/

maybe Azia - just south of Downtown Minneapolis

Or dinner before in St. Paul on Grand Avenue:

Tavern on Grand - to get the %26#39;state fish%26#39;

Here%26#39;s a list of Grand Ave restaurants:

WA Frost is also very good -

--- I meant to include a line that she USED to be a Tina, in Tony %26amp; Tina%26#39;s Wedding here in Minneapolis.

Lots of great suggestions already. What is the age group? That could filter out a few suggestions.

Hi time_traveler99,

A great restaurant choice, right across the street from St. Kate%26#39;s is Ristorante Luci. They have two locations on opposite street corners.

Great Italian cuisine in both locations. The original restaurant, Ristorante Luci, is smaller and maybe a little less expensive than the newer site, Luci Ancora.

Otherwise many good options on Grand Avenue. I do like Heartland, but it can be a little pricey.

Something fun to do: Take a tour of the caves of St. Paul. Hear about the stories of the Gangsters who used them to hide and evade police as well as others in St. Paul%26#39;s past.

The MN Historical Society has some great exhibits and is a very under visited location.

Hope it helps - Sausage321

I am very interested in the cave tour! thank you.

I%26#39;m also thinking we should get pedicures, will ask concierge at hotel.

Hi time_traveler99,

Here is a link for the tours

Have fun and if you need lunch after the caves consider Cossetta%26#39;s Italian Market %26amp; Pizzeria.

Here is a link for Cossetta%26#39;s from TA

Have a great visit.

Hope you enjoy touring St. Kate%26#39;s! I actually went there and think it is a fantastic school! Hopefully you will be taking a tour offered by the school, I say this because they tell some funny stories about the sisters that helped build and run the school.

As for stuff to do and places to eat. Take a trip down Grand Ave, there is plenty of shopping and lots of places to eat. Try Cafe Latte, it has fabulous deserts! And there is also a few spas around the area that would offer pedicures.

Another good restaurant on Grand Ave. is Everest on Grand. It has Nepali and Tibetian food and is resonablly priced for the proportions that you get.

After touring St. Kate%26#39;s a would recommend going to the highland park area to see what the area around the school is like. There are a few shops over there, one is called Patina and it is the best gift store in the area.

Enjoy your time here in MN!
