In a couple of weeks My husband %26amp; I will be traveling from the Twin Cities MN south to the Prairie Du Chien, WI area for a two night getaway. We are from Chicago and will be visiting family in MN the first part of the week and then taking a few nights for some much needed R%26amp;R the second half of the week.
Could anyone tell me, which side of The Great River Road is best. I see it splits up as you go South. I am interested in scenery, restaurants, and would like to explore interesting/quaint towns, etc.
Thank you!
Traveling from Twin Cities MN to Prairie Du Chien, WIThis may be a bit late, but I%26#39;ll give my input anyway. The Wisconsin side of the river has the best views. The Minnesota side has more towns/places to eat/shop, etc. I personally enjoy the Wisconsin side better. There%26#39;s a great park at the top of the bluff in Alma, Wisconsin that has wonderful views. Pier4 Cafe and Smokehouse has awesome food, CHEAP, and a great view of the dam. (Though the building shakes when the train comes through.. I consider it to be just part of the experience)
I LOVE that drive, so let me know if it%26#39;s not too late and you%26#39;d like more suggestions!
Traveling from Twin Cities MN to Prairie Du Chien, WIThanks so much for the tips for our trip. We got back last Saturday and really enloyed our travels. In spite of cold and rainy waether, the drive was very scenic. We did travel the Wisconsin side and stopped along the way in many of the towns. It wes so nice to meat and talk with such friendly people. We would like to travel this way again in the future as the weather gets better!
