fun & romantic day trip

I%26#39;ll be in Minneapolis next week. I would love to plan a surprise day trip for my fiancee. We love art museums, music, the outdoors, basically we are up for anything. Any ideas since I hear it is freezing out there right now. I will be there from the 26th to the 11th of March. Thanks!

Do you ski?

The cold snap is breaking today -- not sure how it will be when you%26#39;re here. But Afton and Trollhaugen are day-trip distance and nice for skiing. If you%26#39;re ambitious you could head up to Lutsen or Spirit Mountain. Very scenic up there, particularly Lutsen with views of Lake Superior. One a nice day, it%26#39;s hard to tell where the lake ends and the sky begins.

In town, you could stop by the Minneapolis Institute of Art which is not far from the intersection of Nicollet Ave and 26th Street. Free! Stunningly large colleciton for a free museum/art institute.

Then combine that with dinner somewhere on Eat Street. Azia, King and I (Thai) come to mind. King and I is not technically on Nicollet but a block off at LaSalle and Grant. (Sit in bar area, not dining room).

My favorite place for nie atmosphere and great wine seleciton (and unique beer list) is Riverview Wine Bar at 42nd Ave and 38th St. Just 3 blocks from my house! Their Italian-style hand-made pizzas are unbelievable and not expensive at all. Combine it with a nice Bordeaux and some dessert. All the food is fantastic. You might have to wait afew minutes as they don%26#39;t take reservations. ut you can sit on the bench by the door until a table opens up and they%26#39;ll serve you there if you want as you wait/

And if you can time it with Sunday Brunch there - that%26#39;s a bonus.

You%26#39;re close to Nye%26#39;s Bar - that%26#39;d be an fun / entertaining place for a few drinks later in the evening.
