Hyatt Regency Hotel on Nicolett mall?

I think I have decided to book 2 nights at the Hyatt on Nicolett mall for our Memorial Day trip. Anyone stayed there or have any opinions? It looks great and seems to be in a perfect location for downtown. Also, is it close to a light rail station? Is it safe? Thanks!

It%26#39;s about 6 - 7 blocks south of the Nicollet Mall Light Rail station on 5th street. Should be safe, but maybe don%26#39;t venture out late late late.

The Hyatt should all be renovated now, but to be sure, ask for renovated room when you book, and again when you check in.

If they have rooms with north view, you%26#39;ll like the view of the tall buildings.

South of the hotel on Nicollet Ave is an area known as Eat Street -

And plenty of restaurants north of the hotel on Nicollet Mall (buses %26amp; taxis only - pedestrian area)

Minneapolis overall is very safe for a large city.

I have not stayed at the Hyatt Regency. Friends who visit usually stay a little more central, so I know those hotels better.

As for location ... depends on what you want to do. From there, you have a nice walk to Loring Park and even to the Walker area if you put some comfortable shoes on. It%26#39;s a pretty walk but I wouldn%26#39;t do it at night just to be on the safe side.

If you plan to use the light rail, I would move up Nicollet Mall a bit. (see map on Web site).

It%26#39;s about 9 blocks to the nearest station, which will be Nicollet Mall Station. Not comfortable walking distance IMO, if you%26#39;re going to, say, the Mall of America and plan to return with bags and did a lot of walking. Seems like too much of a haul, for me.

Have you taken a look at the Radisson Plaza or the Marquette? Both are easy walking to the light rail and still just a half-block off Nicollet Mall, if you want to stay on Nicollet Mall. Closer to the action IMO, too

I can%26#39;t comment on the hotel as I have never stayed there but I live next door so I can say that it is a fabulous location. It%26#39;s only 8 blocks from the Nicollet light rail station, which is my standard transportation to the airport. An easy walk with luggage (wide sidewalks and cutouts for wheeled luggage) and light rail is a deal at $2 versus $30 for a cab to/from the airport. There are also buses running frequently along the mall and as well as cabs if you are less inclined to walk. As for safety, I feel very comfortable here at night, either solo or in a group.

Thanks all. I didnt realize the Hyatt was that far from a light rail station. (6-8 blocks). I was hoping it was a lil closer. I might check into the Radisson, but I dont think I can find a better deal than I have at the Hyatt, which is the main reason I booked it. (89 bucks a night for 2 nights). Any other input from anyone will certainly be read and appreciated. Thanks again!

I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much about the walk from the light rail - you can always spring for $5.00 taxi if you have lots of bags to get you from the light rail stop.

Here%26#39;s a map of downtown - and you%26#39;ll see alot of commerce along the Nicollet Mall.

$89/night is a sweet price for the Hyatt. Move only if you get something comparable.

I have only been to Downtown Minneapolis once, but it was the Hyatt that I stayed at. It was the summer of 2006, and I loved the Hyatt. The rooms were great, and the staff was so nice. I didn%26#39;t drive a car there, so all my travel was by bus or rail. I do%26#39;t recall very long walks, and there are taxis all over.

That is a great price for downtown Minneapolis. The hotel is fine. We are a little spoiled because we have had many new luxury hotels go up in the past year: Ivy, W, Westin, etc...so that makes this hotel seem a little dated but it really is still pretty new and pretty nice. But the new hotels are all $250-$500 a night range. It is more on the southern end of downtown. Downtown is easily walkable so don%26#39;t let that deter you and this hotel is right on Nicollet Mall (a pedestrian only street) You are basically right in the mix.
