Hi! we are planning on heading up to Minnesota around June 23rd with our pop up camper. Is this a good time? We are planning on starting at Minneapolis and then going taylors falls and gooseberry falls. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!
summer camping with 2 kids ideas??
If you plan to camp at Gooseberry Falls State Park, better get reservations in quickly if you haven%26#39;t already. That%26#39;s a busy campground.
If you are interested in history, there is an interpretive center at Pine City on the old fur trade post. Further north, a stop at Jay Cooke State Park is interesting too.
The Duluth waterfront is also a good stop with tours of ships and a nice museum. You might also want to stop at The Depot museum for railroad info.
A quick stop at Two Harbors is also in order as it is where 3M was started.
Not too much farther up the shore of Lake Superior beyond Gooseberry Falls is Split Rock lighthouse, another state park.

Late June is a perfect time.
There is a State Park in Taylor%26#39;s Falls - Interstate Park:
…state.mn.us/state_parks/…index.html
And another park right across the river in Wisconsin, also called Interstate:
…state.wi.us/Org/…
Both have campgrounds. There is a swimming beach in the WI park (not sure about the MN park). The MN park has canoe rentals for the river and a shuttle that will bring you back to the park.
We have 2 young boys 9 and 6 anything really cool for them that we shouldn%26#39;t miss? Thanks for your suggestions!
Hey Wackiebeanie--
Echo the camping near Taylors Falls, and for something to do for the boys , check out: wildmountain.com/waterpark/waterpark_home.ht…
You can bring coolers and pack lunches and spend a nice afternoon!
The Taylors Falls area also has very scenic hiking %26amp; boat rides on the St Croix River....have fun!
I took my niece and nephew up to Taylor%26#39;s Falls to wander around the rocks on the river. Then we took a boat ride -- one of those big ol- fashioned riverboats. They had a good time. Some good places in town to eat for kids. Wish I could remember the names. Real nice takeaway ice cream place there too.
Beautiful area there where the river has carved a path through the rocks.
My daughter (9 at the time) LOVED Duluth, Gooseberry and Split Rock. She really liked the scenic tours on Superior - there is a wide range of different tours and can be accessed either in Duluth or Superior. She also enjoyed the Glensheen Mansion, although the extended tour may be a little much for your youngest there are other options for the tour. You will be going at a great time!! Have fun!!!
