Hi,
I have been expecting that we would start to get questions from visitors to the GOP convention.
Where are you? I am sure that even some of us committed Democrats could help you to enjoy our great metropolitan area.
I thought I might start with a little list. It is based on the things I learned when I first arrived in the twin cities back in 1996. Some of these are just for fun.
1) It is Minneapolis and St. Paul. Otherwise known ate the twincities (think Minnnesota Twins)
2) St. Paul is the State Capital.
3) The convention is is St. Paul. I think some of the folks in St. Paul would prefer if you call it that when you speak to them (not-minneapolis)
4) Locals usually call the area ';The Metro';. Lots of communities have nicknames for their areas - most people outside the are don%26#39;t know them. I grew up in the tri-state/metropolitan region - that doesn%26#39;t tell you much.
5) Non-metro is often refered to as out-state. Which is not out-of-state. It is also not up-state or down-state.
6)The MN equivalent of upstate is up-north.
=============================
Enough geography
=============================
1) MN is NOT Hicksville. This is one of the major mtroplitan areas in the US. Close to 4 million people live here. That is roughly the same as Philadelphia.
2) What we don%26#39;t have that Phila. and many other coastal cities have is another big city two hours away. That may make us seem smaller than we are.
3) We hold our own against any other region in the country on culture, education, economic health, vibrant cities and towns, arts, etertainment, health-care...you name it.
4) So don%26#39;t worry, you are not going to disappear in the Tundra. In fact I think you will be blown away by how nice it is in the twin cites.

Anybody else?
Where are the GOP Posters? Wonder what it is like here?
OK- I know I spelled Capitol wrong :)
Where are the GOP Posters? Wonder what it is like here?
ha ha ha
I so remember a list that got published for travellers when the World Series was in town.
One of the tips was...
';it%26#39;s pronounced NICOLETTE not NICOLLAY, even though it looks French';
I tried to google it, but couldn%26#39;t find it.
Anyone still have that list ???
Actually, you had it correct.
Capitol is the building - I like the capitol building in St. Paul
Capital is the city that is the seat of government - St. Paul is the MN state capital.
:)
