Hi, we would like to rent a 1-bedroom cabin for a few days in August in central or Northern Minnesota. My questions is: most of them are not air conditioned? We are quite sensitive to the heat. What is your opinion--can we manage without it? Are most places cool, especially at night? Also, if you had 4 nights for a vacation leaving from Mpls., where would you go?
Thanks,
Ac and where
It depends how much you%26#39;ll need A/C and how much you want to risk not hitting a hot spell. August can get hot here, despite this state%26#39;s reputation as a cold-weather place.
Most of the older, more secluded places will not have AC. That means the single cabins run by small resorts, for the most part.
The bigger resorts might have better luck, but then you%26#39;re risking losing some of the charm. Kind of a catch-22.
How long of a drive are you up for? And are you looking for lakeside cabins? Do you care about fishing?
I often stay up at Kabetogama Lake up a short distance from International Falls near Canada border. It%26#39;s a gorgeous lake with great fishing. Park Point resort is where I stay -- friend of the family owns it. The cabins are small, with a deck and a grill (though you might want to make sure it works before renting). Kitchenette includes dishes and pans and silverware -- and a fridge and stove. He should have all the info. That%26#39;s one option but it won%26#39;t have A/C.
For a place that is far lower on the up-north charm factor and a little less roughing it, you could look into Breezy point resort near Nisswa. You can rent time shares lakeside with nice views, hot tub and fully accommodated.

Thanks, I know about that Catch22. Another problem is that a lot of the places are for more people--we only need 1 bedroom. And yes, we like the secluded, private places. We do not care at all about fishing.
You could check http://www.vrbo.com/. There are 1-bedroom cabins, some with air conditioning.
Thanks, I did rent something through VRBO!
