casinos

How far are the casinos from the metrodome? Are they worth going to?

From the Dome, it will take you in the neighborhood of 45 minutes to get to Mystic Lake, which is the most logical destination (especially with the bridge out on 35 W north).

As far as whether it%26#39;s worth it, it depends on whether you like casinos. I do not. Haven%26#39;t been there in about 15 years, actually. So I can%26#39;t really weigh in there.

Yes, Mystic is probably the closest...probably 30 miles SW of Mpls in/near Prior Lake. For card games Canterbury Park horse racing track has a card room and would be just slightly closer (by 3-4 miles) in the same general area.

Other alternatives are Treasure Island, near Red Wing and Grand Casino at Hinkley. TI would be about an hour from the Metrodome and Grand about 90 minutes if traffic is not bad. I believe both offer regular bus services from Minneapolis but can%26#39;t recall if it costs. Web search the names and find their web sites.

All the full casinos (with slots, etc...) are typical of Indian casinos anywhere and have lower payback EVs than you would find in Las Vegas. It%26#39;s still a negative expectation situation no matter wher you go. That said over the years we%26#39;ve seldom not broken even on a visit to Treasure Is. We go there maybe twice a year.

What%26#39;s really hard to find is details about what the various tribes do with their revenues. Best I%26#39;ve found is Mystic distrbutes very large monthly checks to the small number of members....TI does somewhat the same but also uses some for tribal projects...and Grand (including their other casino at Mille Lacs) uses the most for tribal projects like schools, community centers, water system, etc... So if there a ';social contract'; aspect on where to go this may influence thinking as well.

Mystic Lake runs a free shuttle from several spots downtown too, if you didn%26#39;t want to drive.
