Walking to Guthrie

Is the Guthrie theater within walking distance of the Marriott City Center? Is it safe to walk back at night?

Walking to Guthrie

If you like walking it is - it%26#39;s almost a mile between the two. I would probably suggest busing it part of the way - either catch a bus going down 6th St to Chicago Ave and walk to 2nd OR a bus going down Nicollet Mall to Washington Ave and walking to 2nd %26amp; Chicago. Use Google maps to show you exactly where to go.

I personally would not have a problem walking there then taking a cab back.

I probably would not walk around alone after 10, but that%26#39;s just me. If you%26#39;re with someone on a busy street (Nicollet %26amp; Washington are) you%26#39;re probably fine. I find the area around the theater safe. However, there%26#39;s a pretty busy bus stop next to the Marriott and you should be aware of that area later in the evening.

Have a great visit!

Walking to Guthrie

Thanks so much for your response. I will likely walk to the Guthrie and take a cab back to the Marriott.

Are cabs plentiful in Minneapolis so that I could catch one outside the theater or do I need to phone for one?

I would think they%26#39;d be plentiful after a show gets out. If you don%26#39;t see one, walk back up to Washington - it%26#39;s a pretty busy street and they%26#39;re likely to be cruising around there.

BTW, if it%26#39;s not too late and you%26#39;re not yet tired, ramble across the river on the Stone Arch Bridge to St Anthony Main. I%26#39;m not sure when you%26#39;ll be in town, but there%26#39;s a civilized nightlife over there, and it%26#39;s very pretty at night. Cabs should also be available, or walk over to Hennepin.

I agree that it would be a fine walk, and if you include the river-walk all the better.

As far as safety goes, while I am usually to say - by all meas walk - I am not sure I would do so in this case.

It is not so much that I can point to a ';bad spot';, it is simply that the Guthrie is along the river in an area that has not much sidwalk traffic, so that unless you were with the theatre crowd, you would be quite alone. I might do it myself - but I don%26#39;t know that a visitor would feel a safe as I in that circumstance.

In the event that you do decide to walk back - I wold suggest you head to Hennepin for the theatre and then go suth to the city center - it is really only a few blocks and Hennepin is a very very busy street.

I think as long as you%26#39;re on a busy street walking to the Guthrie (Nicollet, Washington, St Anthony Main across the river), then you%26#39;re fine. Also, North Hennepin across the river is safe also.

However, I would advise against Hennepin for a couple reasons: to walk there en route is out of the way and I would not recommend taking it on the way back. But it appears you%26#39;ll be cabbing it after the show anyway...

Another transport option is the LRT, or Light Rail. A station is two blocks from the Marriott City Center and another near the Guthrie, in front of the Metrodome. It operates every 7-15 minutes depending on time of day.

There are two Marriott properties closer to the Guthrie, the Renaissance and Residence Inn, both located at the Milwaukee Depot at Washington %26amp; 3rd Ave. A new W Aloft Hotel by Starwood opens in early September just a block from the Guthrie.

Thanks so much for your help, everyone. I wasn%26#39;t sure how close the Light Rail stop at the Metrodome was to the Guthrie.
