I wanted to vacation in Northern MN (Boundary Waters)with my family and two dogs. Ideally, I would be interested in a standalone cabin somewhere. Grateful for any tips from MN experts.

You won%26#39;t find any cabins inside the BWCA limits. You can look around the Gunflint trail or Ely, as the terrain is similar (though not as pristine and quiet) and nearby.

If youre not into the backcountry, check out the north shore. I would recommend a cabin in the grand marais/gunflint trail area. Hwy 61 is a beautiful 2-3 hr drive from duluth to grand marais with plenty of places to stop and hike along the lake shore or up many of the rivers that flow into the lake.
