Getting to Minnehaha Park & ComoTown from MOA

My family is taking a short vacation to Mall of American in early May and will be staying at a hotel near mall and be there about 4.5 days. We don%26#39;t plan to rent car. My wife and I will have a 3 and 5 year old. We are planning to go to the Nickelodeon Universe theme park, the aquarium at MOA and the MN Zoo. I have been reading in the forums that the Minnehaha Park would be a good place as well and hope to have time to spend a few hours there as well. Does the light rail from the MOA stop at Minnehaha Park? Also, some have mentioned that the ComoTown Zoo is a great place as well as some like it better than the MN Zoo as it has more traditional zoo animals. What public transportation is available to get from MOA to ComoTown Zoo? Any other advice on things to see and do is appreciated. Thanks.

www.metrotransit.org will give you an idea of public transport. The light rail stops at or very near minnehaha park, but not Como Park. There is a bus that runs by Como park.

I just typed in MOA to Como Park at metrotransit.org and found a route looks like it will take about an hour on the bus with a transfer downtown st. paul.

Go to the science museum downtown st. paul. great for the kids and the adults too. You should also see an omnitheater show, which is at the museum.

Take the light rail to the nicollet mall stop in downtown minneapolis and walk up and down the pedestrian mall. Lots of great restaurants and shops, and just a nice walk in the heart of downtown.

The light rail takes you to the mall to the park. About a 20 minute ride, if even that. Get off at the 50th Street/Minnehaha Park stop, cross the main road there (Hwy 55/Hiawatha Avenue) and enter the park through the gap in the tan wall. Head to your left and you%26#39;ll find your way to the falls and the prettier area of the park. Don%26#39;t miss out on a walk along the creek. Stare at the falls from up top but make sure to get a view from below by descending those beautiful stairs. Then follow the creek downstream -- gorgeous scenery. Peaceful.

You can follow it all the way down (2 miles tops) to where it runs into Mississippi River. It%26#39;s a nice walk though maybe a lot if the kids aren%26#39;t in travel mode. There is a Dairy Queen across from the northwest corner of the park to make them happy if they get cranky.

For Como Park, I really would think about a car for one day to do that. It%26#39;s no fun to sit on a bus for that long and to endure changes (with kids). But metrotransit.org will get you to the park and zoo. It%26#39;s quite a ways from the mall, though.
