North shore drive

We may have a free day when we go to wedding in Grand Rapids. we have been there before twice, but have not yet been north of route between Gr Rapids and Duluth

Wondering about seeing north shore in a day from Grand Rapids. consideirng driving to Ely then to north shore and from there to Duluth and back to Grand Rapids. Do we miss the best doing this??

I mean Grand Rapids. wedding is there. we are a little unsure of family plans there. we may have a a family gathering on Thurs, but maybe not. It might be Fri. Anyway thurs could be free day

It would take you a couple of hours to get to Ely from Grand Rapids, another hour plus to the shore and then another hour to Duluth from Silver Bay, followed by a couple more hours back to Rapids. That would be approximately six hours of driving. Sounds like a nice day trip to me. you could leave early in the morning, shop a little if you wanted, stop at Split Rock and Gooseberry falls, etc. I think its doable.

I think it%26#39;s do-able as well. IF you like to drive. The area is beautiful. Split Rock is nice, but being from oregon you might have seen plenty better in your own state.

A stop at Gooseberry to see the falls and the water back up inland a bit would be a nice break in the drive. I love the north shore. The geology is pretty unique.

Thanks for posts. see the two places on my map, they sound good, so may work just a bit harder to get there including getting there earlier
