How safe is downtown?

I have an event to go to at the Target Center in August. I am planning on staying at the Radisson Plazza. Just wondering if it would be safe to walk there from the Target Center at about midnight?

How safe is downtown?

Hey cabaxter-

Like any city at night- Minneapolis can present sticky situations you could find yourself in. That being said, in general there will be alot of other people milling around- the bar scene that time of night is hopping. Rule of thumb- good for any city- don%26#39;t walk around if your drunk ( NOT THAT YOU ARE! ) don%26#39;t look for a urinal in a alley and keep a smile on your face.

Enjoy our city!

How safe is downtown?

Absolutely yes.

Of course take all of your logical precautions, but you%26#39;ll be fine. And it%26#39;s only a short walk to boot.

Thanks for the quick responses. What about the skywalks. Would you recommend using them at all?

I wouldn%26#39;t recommend them. Seems more trouble than it%26#39;s worth to go that route. Target Center to the Radisson Plaza is a piece of cake outdoors, somewhat complicated if you try to find your way in the skywalk

cabaxter, as noted, the area around the Target Center will be crawling with people at midnight in August, so no worries about safety. Just be reasonable, as you would anywhere.

The skyway system is great, but most people walk outdoors during the summer, since it isn%26#39;t so much fun walking outdoors in the middle of winter! However, not all of them are open twenty four hours. Some of the system goes through stores and other buildings, so the close down at night. Unless it is pouring rain, you will have no problem walking on street level for the two or three blocks from the Target Center back to the Radisson.

here%26#39;s some advise -

stay on the south side of 7th street from your walk from Radisson to Target Center - x2 blocks.

I live on 7th - 4 blocks to the east of Radisson.

Not that it%26#39;s unsafe, but the north side has the bus stops, and there seems to be alot of people just %26#39;hangin out%26#39; on the north side of 7th, whether they are waiting for a bus, or not, especially in the summer.

They skyway may only be open til 10 p.m. M-F, and reduced hours on weekends.

I agree about the skyways. Don%26#39;t bother - they may not even be open and the street is easier.

A lot of visitirs get lost in the skyways. It is harder to know where you are than it is on the street.

And sometimes they just don%26#39;t go-there-from-here.

Also,

DO NOT WORRY. That is one area that I would never think twice about.
