Hotel in June: Downtown or Suburbs?

Coming to town for the golf tournament in June. Never been to Minn. before and not sure where to be: a hotel downtown (which one?) or the suburbs, near Edina? Any suggestions or recommendations?

Hotel in June: Downtown or Suburbs?

It all depends on what you want to do...if you want to be in a place that will be excactly like every suburb anywhere in the USA, stay in the suburbs!....hey, a lot of people like that! to expirience a bit more of ';culture'; and all that brings head downtown.....Minneapolis is a lot more lively than St Paul.

The other thing would be how fancy you want to be...downtown has every type of accomodations, big hotels and smaller boutiques...all depends in how much you want to spend and how cool you want to be.

Remember that Mpls/St Paul has great museums, parks and great food...must of those things are right in the cities...

keep asking!

Hotel in June: Downtown or Suburbs?

I think you will have a more enjoyable time if you stay downtown, but that%26#39;s just me. What is your budget? If money is no object, I would suggest the Chambers or the graves 601. The new Westin is nice, as is the Marquette. The Hilton and Hyatt are larger hotels, more in the convention type mode.

In the suburbs, the Sofitel, in Bloomington, is a nice hotel, but, as I said, I would prefer to stay downtown. There is more to do downtown.

When exactly are you here, and how long are you staying?

like everyone says, ';depends';...I did not enjoy staying downtown, it felt crowded with tall office buildings and lots of cement, and I usually prefer more peace and quiet/nature on vaca. but if you feel like you%26#39;ll be getting enough green on the greens and want to be close to restaurants, etc in town, that%26#39;s up to you- your experience may be better with a different hotel, too. my perception of downtown Minneapolis is that it%26#39;s similar to Boston%26#39;s financial district without the ocean on one side and minus the Boston Common on the other side, as far as green/open spaces. There are parks in some areas of course, I';m not ';slamming'; MPLS, just trying to give you info to help you decide what you want. You%26#39;ll probably have a car for golfing, which will also give you more freedom. Our hotel did not have free parking so we skipped the rental and took the light rail and busses, so it took more time to figure out %26amp; get to places like the art museum. If I were to visit the MSP area again, I would stay in the suburbs with a car and go into the city for a period of time, but be based there.

Are you coming for the US Women%26#39;s Open? I would suggest you try and find out from where they are having spectators park to catch a shuttle bus and then make a decision. I heard a local sports guy comment last week they may have people park at Canterbury Downs (horse track near Shakopee in the far SW corner of the metro) and bus them from there to Interlachen.

This is jut a rumor but it would surprise me as it make sense - and they use this location for park-n-rides/shuttles when men%26#39;s majors have been held at Hazeltine

I checked the website and nothing yet on shuttle parking.
