Visit in Third week of May

Please I%26#39;m looking for advice to where I should stay and what to do over the third weekend of May,

Will it be cold?

stay in Radisson (reasonable rate) or The Inn on Lake (little expensive for my budget)

To do: I want to take the scenic drive on north shore, and I heard there is cruise but not sure where or how

Any advices?

Visit in Third week of May

with a clear day %26amp; the sun out, it should be fairly warm during the day with light jacket, but pack a sweater just in case

radisson has tiny rooms

if you can get a room in one of the hotels at Canal Park you might like that better - there%26#39;s a whole stretch of hotels there

maybe head up to Two Harbors, Gooseberry Falls, Split Rock Light House, and maybe all the way up to the Oberg Loop hiking trail. That would be up to 80 miles up the shore from Duluth.

At about 120 miles is Grand Marais - very nice town on the lake.

I liked the Vista cruises tour:

We just stayed at the Sheraton and the room was very comfortable (but we did pay for a lake view). We also visited the WWII Heritage Center in Superior and enjoyed a great lecture they had scheduled that Saturday we were there. There are casinos all over (though I%26#39;m not fond of the one in Duluth) and of course great shopping for your exchange rate. I always enjoy driving up North Shore too. There%26#39;s a little museum right in canal park about the Lakes that is nice as well.

Thank you so much for reply and suggestions.

DowntownMinneapolis I want to make sure that I understand your suggestion, you suggest to keep going to North HWY 61 and stay there?

But 80 mile is quit far from duluth, will it be nicer than Duluth, we love the natural, it would be great to walk on lake or hike scenic trails.

JACombs, I like the cruise idea. Thanks

I do a 5 day trip each year on the North Shore -

I stay in Tofte / Lutsen - about 80 miles up the shore from Duluth.

Duluth is great, I%26#39;ve seen alot of it, but I like to get away and enjoy the state parks, hiking trails, water falls, the waves, and going for hours without seeing anyone else. (I travel with my golden retreiver).

Perhaps drive to Duluth, park in Canal Park, take in a Vista Fleet cruise, eat at one of the great restaurants there, then back in the car and head up the shore.

Even the view from your car as you drive along the lake shore is grand. You really don%26#39;t get that stayin in Duluth.

You could hit the Sunday a.m. brunch at the top of the Radisson. It rotates, and good food, from what I remember years back.

Hit me up and I can give you more hiking trail advice if you%26#39;d like.

One nice scenic drive in Duluth is the Skyline Drive. Make a stop at the Enger Tower and at each overlook to try to find all the points of interest.

Tons to see and do on hwy 61 (north shore scenic drive). Stop and any or all of the state parks... here are a few of my favorite:

Thanks for all these great advices, so the plane is to visit Duluth, then stay in hotels along north shore to enjoy the view state park and hiking trails, is there a recommended hotel along the north shore?

There are many many nice B%26amp;B%26#39;s in Grand Marais. That is what I would recommend. You can spend all day driving from Duluth to Grand Marais (you could actually spend a few days on that drive). You can also stay in Grand Marais and plan different day excursions from there.

Search for B%26amp;Bs/hotels/campsites on www.exploreminnesota.com. You can search by lodging type, and you can select the whole north shore region or search by city.

Keep in mind there can be three temperatures in Duluth on the same day; one on the hill, one downtown, and one on Park Point - And they can vary by 30-40 degrees depending upon where you are! It will always be colder by the lake than over the hill. It%26#39;s amazing.

We were at the Condon Mansion/Glensheen one evening for dinner (incredible experience if they still do this and you ever get the chance) in early May and the wind had blown ice into the Duluth portion of Lake Superior, the temp at my uncle%26#39;s house on top of the hill was in the 70s and it was probably in the 40s near the lake.

In Duluth, I am partial to the Canal Park Lodge. Also in good locations are the Inn, Hampton Inn and Confort Suites. Gotta have dinner at Pickwick too. This year when I go to Duluth I%26#39;m staying at the Holiday Inn Lakefront. I have not stayed there before so hopefully it will be nice.

I go to Duluth/Two Harbors/Silver Bay/Gooseberry every year. I always stay at the AmericInns in both Two Harbors and Silver Bay. Nice, clean, good breakfasts. I have never done the B%26amp;B thing there but would like to.
