Good Ol Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry.

I am origionally from Wisconsin. There ,you can%26#39;t go two blocks on a Friday evening and NOT find a great traditional ';fish fry.'; Usually this would consist of beer battered walleye, cod, or lake perch; not that terrible ';whitefish'; which covers most of everything else in the world of fish and seems to be what most places offer here as ';fish.'; Having moved to Minnesota almost 30 years ago I have yet to find a ';great fish fry';. I have tried many Legions, VFW%26#39;s, Eagles and ';bars'; that have been recommended as having ';a great fish fry'; and have always been disappointed. I have yet to find a suitable beer battered fish, cole slaw, potato salad and rye bread. Would like to find a place where the fish doesn%26#39;t taste like it just came out of the Mississippi and have those awful black streaks running through it like Pollack. Believe it or not, one of the closest to home I ahve found is the Walleye at Culver%26#39;s which they offer during Lent. Any help greatly appreciated.

Where are these places that you reminisce about in Wisconsin? I have been terribly disappointed in the fish fries from Highway 8 area, also around Dresser, Osceola %26amp; Prescott. Most serve cod that is cut up like fish sticks. Ick. Would also appreciate finding some hidden gems THAT STILL EXIST.

I also would like to see answers to good fish fry in Minnesota and hear from psychnursie about the best places in Wisconsin!

I just haven%26#39;t seen any around. If you find one it%26#39;s cod or something. Might have to drive to Hudson.

I have good news and bad news for you:

Good: I%26#39;ve been to the BEST fish fry in MN

Bad: It%26#39;s in Grand Marais and you can only get it in the summer.

Angry Trout has the best fish I%26#39;ve had around here. I%26#39;m particular about my fish too that%26#39;s why most of the time I just make my own. I had the best fresh fried herring at Angry Trout. They also have what they call white fish and that%26#39;s not bad, despite it%26#39;s generic name.

See you there in the summer (if we ever see it)!

try Steinhaus

101 Main Street West

Vermillion, MN 55085

very good cod

It may be the water in Minnesota. Best bet drive the short distance to Wisconsin and see if 30 years later the fish taste the same there. No disrespect but fishing laws have changed. Wild cought fish are more prised and not given to local frys as much. Wisconsin you can use three fishing rods, Minnesota only one.

We%26#39;ve only been in MN for 6 months and we also miss the Friday fish fry. My favorite was in Dallas, WI at the bar. Dallas is a small town and the bar I am thinking of is the only one in town that has a restaurant. I can%26#39;t remember the name, it has been several years. We were recently living near Appleton, and the fish there wasn%26#39;t very good either. Sometimes it is best to just go fishing and have your own fish fry.

I too need a good fish fry in the TC

the closest I have come is the sports club in Hudson WI

cod or perch all you can eat, great sides etc...

red velvet wall paper, smoky, maybe a little dirty...but great fish fry!

cheers

On the plus side, it%26#39;s fish fry season at Culver%26#39;s again.

Obb%26#39;s Bar in Saint Paul.......a great fish fry

Also a great place in Hudson, but this site considers the name profane.....wonder what everyone (male) with that first name thinks about that!
