Good swimming beach near Minneapolis?

Hi!

We will be visiting family in the Minneapolis area (about 10-15 miles north of the city) next weekend. I am curious about a good beach to take our 3 eleven-year-old boys. I found some web sites with a few suggestions (Minnetonka, Lake Elmo, Lake Nokomis to name a few). I just can%26#39;t seem to find more than the basic info (ie, most websites on list hours, fees, etc).

Do any of the beaches have ';fun things'; in the water? I guess I am thinking of when I was a kid and we would go to a beach and swim out to floating piers that maybe had a slide or diving board, etc?

Thanks in advance for any input,

Kelly

Hi Kelly1119

As the English say, ';you can%26#39;t swing a cat without hitting a beach'; around here. My favorite beach- even though its a bit of a drive is :http://www.eminnetonka.com/recreation/facilities/beach_locations/shady_oak_beach.cfm

or better known as Shady Oak Beach near Hopkins / Minnetonka. It has a 3-4 smaller docks and then the famous big dock which has diving boards and a high dive. Nice sandy beach, concession stands and picnic areas. Have fun!

Thank you! That is exactly what we are looking for! Also, the mileage from where we are staying is only about 28 miles (totaly do-able).
