The main reason to come in would be for Twins games. I would be driving. Would it be best (meaning cheapest) to stay at a place outside of downtown and leave my vehicle there and ride the rail or, stay downtown and pay the higher parking rates? Are the hotels say near the airport, free parking? The hotel wouldn%26#39;t need to be fancy. Basically it%26#39;s just for showering and sleeping. One person only.
Any thoughts?

I%26#39;d price it out.
You might get a downtown hotel at good price even after paying for parking.
Otherwise, if not, staying near the mega-mall where you don%26#39;t pay for parking (anywhere along I-494), and then taking the light rail in/out for the game would be good.

Hotels near the airport are free parking generally, as are the ones near the Mall of America. (also on the light rail line).
I really dislike the area around both because they%26#39;re just bland suburbia, but if you%26#39;re looking for lower rates, free parking and easy access to the light rail to get to the Metrodome, I think either area (more options near the mall, probably better rates too) works better than downtown.
Unless, of course, you check downtown and find an unbelievable deal through hotwire or priceline.
Just make sure whatever hotel you pick in Bloomington (where the MOA and airport hotels are, in general) has free shuttle to a light rail stop (likely MOA). It%26#39;s a perk that should be standard n this day in age.
Thank you to both of you.
