Hello Minnesota!! Trip Advisor has helped me with planning so many trips, so I thought I%26#39;d go ahead and ask your opinion on my next adventure. My husband would like to go on a fishing vacation, so after thinking long and hard, I came up with what I hope will be a good idea. Renting a houseboat. I%26#39;ve done a little research and got a few places by Ely. Just wondering if anyone here has done this or known anyone who has done this. One company better than the other? Any better areas? Although I did love the Ely area. I visited relatives there when I was a kid. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Houseboat rental. Good idea?I%26#39;ve known several families who have done this on Rainy Lake (International Falls area) and loved it, but sadly I cannot remember from whom they rented. It is supposed to be a great time and something I%26#39;d love to do as well.
The Explore MN website may be helpful....if you haven%26#39;t found it already. Have fun!

Houseboat rental. Good idea?Thankyou for your quick response Sully. Rainy Lake is the area I found. It seems to be quite popular for houseboating. The pictures look beautiful. I guess I%26#39;ll need to do more research and compare the boats and the companies. By the way, thanks for the website link. It%26#39;s in my favorites now.
Here is one I know of on Crane Lake--- take a look.

Another one I know of is on Lake Vermilion near Tower, I don%26#39;t know much about it other than driving past it many times.

The Vermilion one will get you closer to Ely. Anyways, take a look.
Just returned from several days in the Voyageurs area....every houseboat we saw on Kabetogama %26amp; Rainy looked awesome. One interesting tidbit, one of the park rangers said $100-$150/day should be budgeted for gas.
I%26#39;d suggest you bring a GPS as it would be very easy to get lost! :)
