My wife and I won 2 nights at the historic suites section at an auction but we are wondering what the consensus is for this hotel. We were told it%26#39;s connected or nearby the ice rink but I%26#39;ve never heard of it before. I know that a Renaissance Inn is in the same or nearby building as the rink but no idea about this hotel. When we went to the Depot website, there were 4 choices under accomodations. Can someone explain that and I%26#39;m wondering, are the reviews for the Historic Suites section or the Renaissance Inn section?
The reviews I found were pretty good but I%26#39;m wondering if we could get anymore information on this hotel. Room to request, what to eat, etc. Thanks in advance. Scott
The Depot Historic SuitesThe old train depot got revamped several years ago to include two Marriott hotels, a water park in between, and a skating rink, %26amp; conference / banquet rooms for events.
The Renaissance Hotel (and attached Historic Suites), used to be a Courtyard. The other hotel is a Marriott Residence Inn on the other side of the waterpark.
The Historic Suites are part of the original depot building, and I think there%26#39;s only a handful of these suite rooms. I believe you check in/out and are just part of the Renaissance hotel. The other rooms are in the new construction.
I didn%26#39;t see any separate section for the Historic Suites on Tripadvisor or Expedia -
but I found this info --
What to expect: The hotel is part of the Depot complex, which features a restored 1899 railway station as its centerpiece. Monday through Thursday, the hotel is busy with business travelers drawn to meetings in the elegantly restored Great Hall, which once served as the Depot%26#39;s reception area. On weekends, when the hotel%26#39;s water park is open, families take over. Minnesota Vikings and Twins fans flock to the hotel because of its proximity to the Metrodome.
Amenity highlights: Among the building%26#39;s highlights are an indoor water park and seasonal ice rink, housed in a restored, glass-enclosed train shed. The complex is located in Minneapolis%26#39; historic milling district, where restored mill buildings now house offices and lofts.
Insider tip: The depot, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is just a portion of the complex, and was originally called the Milwaukee Road Depot. The Renaissance Revival-style building designed by Charles Frost served customers from 1899 to 1971. Scattered throughout the building are glass cases containing historic mementos from the Milwaukee Road railroad
I think you%26#39;ll enjoy.
The Depot Historic SuitesNot much to add to that.
I think it%26#39;s a good part of the downtown area, too. Close to light rail and the riverfront.
Just search under Courtyard by Marriott -- Depot, or something similar to that. Should find reviews there. I have stayed in a suite there and thought it was very nice. Water park attached, but not sure how it%26#39;s priced in relation to rooms.
If you are truly staying in the historic suites section of the property, they are very, very nice. A friend stayed there over the summer and was taken aback by how nice it was. I%26#39;m not sure, but I believe they are upstairs in the original depot part of the building,
Here is a link from the website describing the suites:

Enjoy!
My family from the UK plan to stay at the Residence Inn at the Depot. One of them is in a wheel chair. How far is this hotel from the main tourist area? Is it on a part of the Skyway and how difficult will it be for them to get around?
Could anyone suggest a better hotel in a downtown area that has 2 seperate bedrooms and bathrooms? Also, what is going on in town the week of Sept. 9th that everything is booked? The Republican National Convention should be over by then.
TIA
As to how far it is from the ';main'; tourist area, that is a hard question to answer. It is fairly close to the Nicollet Mall/Downtown area of Minneapolis. It is also fairly close to the Stone Arch Bridge/Guthrie Theater/Mill City Museum area, as well as the Metrodome. There are many other ';tourist'; areas in the Twin Cities: the Mall of America, the Science Museum, Minnehaha Park, Lake Calhoun, Cedar Lake, Lake Nokomis, etc., etc., etc. In other words, there is no one hotel that is close to the main tourist area.
I can%26#39;t really offer too many suggestions as to accommodations; I do know, however, the Depot is NOT on the Skyway system. Also, that week there is a National Convention of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers that has sold out the Hyatt Regency. There is also some software conference, but that hotel is located out in the suburbs. I%26#39;m sure there are other events taking place. Sorry I can%26#39;t offer more help.
