Our trip to minneapolis is coming up in less than two weeks (July 23-26). We are staying at he Westin and it seems that those who stay there seldom post reviews- haven%26#39;t been any new ones for a while. I am planing on walking and maybe biking the lakes near town, checking out the nicolet mall scene, and trying a few of the restaurants you all recommended. Are there any special events going on while we are there? Concerts, plays, comedy shows that we should try and take in?
any last minute suggestions?
hey muscledfuture..
Check out : www.aquatennial.com/events.php鈥?/a>
Lots of stuff happening during your stay...
for any in general options, The Calhoun Lake / Uptown area is fun on any given night. Lots of bars , food, biking, roller blading etc...
any last minute suggestions?
Hello,
If you%26#39;re planning on biking, be sure to do the Lake Calhoun/Lake Harriet bike trails, they are pretty and great for people watching. Also, in the afternoons there are free outdoor concerts at Lake Harriet if you look at the mpls parks website for the list, then you can stop by Lake Calhoun for an ice cream or whatever at the boathouse. (It%26#39;s also fun to do the paddleboats :)
From there you are only blocks from some great uptown restaurants/nightlife... let me know if you need more restaurant recommendations.
Not sure about your taste in music or theater but you can check out www.citypages.com for the music, theater and show schedules. They have a nice calendar search option, reviews an A-List picks.
There are some free outdoor concerts at Peavey Plaza (Nicollet and 11th Street) for Sommerfest - minnesotaorchestra.org/sommerfest/peavey.cfm
If you need to rent a bike, I%26#39;d recommend Calhoun Rental. http://www.calhounrental.com/ Their site isn%26#39;t very informative but I was pleased with the road bike I rented for a friend who visited. They are located just a couple of blocks from Lake Calhoun.
I do plan on getting a bike, so I definitely will save your info. We like all types of music, but we are partial to jazz or rock or Jimmy Buffett (LOL) esp. live. Enjoy local talent too. We make an annual trip to NOLA for the music (mostly- food and drink and people too). This will be our first trip to Minneapolis, hopefully we will find another city we love to visit often. We like comedy clubs too.
You may find The Mall of America interesting. Cannot bike there, but worth the experience to go.
the best fireworks in the state, of the year will be Sat July 26th for the Aquatennial.
Be sure to see them just after sunset.
Hords of people go down by the river, and get eaten by mosquitos.
There are a few parking ramps by the river - go to the top floor - rooftop.
Great view.
I love fireworks- seems to be a lot going on on Sat.; unfortunately we leave before noon:=(

A few weeks ago we had a blast doing the segway tour in Minneapolis....it starts in the warehouse district. You can find info on it at HumanOnAStick.com
We have lived here our entire lives and on this tour we went to some beautiful areas we%26#39;ve never been to before. It follows the river and really is a lot of fun. The guides are great and so knowledgable about the city. There are some good restuarants in the area that you get coupons for after the tour. Just another option.
Since you are partial to jazz, then you need to go to the Dakota. www.dakotacooks.com It is close to your hotel and the best jazz spot in Minneapolis. Great food, too.
