I am planning to visit Duluth in the weekend of Oct 24rth.Would there be any fall colors to see in that week? How is it looking right now?
Fall colors
We%26#39;re going there this weekend. Judging from reports and 1st hand accounts, sounds like they%26#39;re in the middle of peak right now. Further north, maples are past peak %26amp; loosing their leaves. It%26#39;s mostly going to be yellows %26amp; browns there.
I think the weekend of 24th will either be peak or just past in the cities, and we%26#39;re usually a couple weeks behind Duluth.
If you can get further west away from the shoreline, you might have a little more luck. Otherwise, try to take a scenic route up to see more colors.
Fall colors
The MN DNR has info regarding fall colors on its website.

Hope this helps.
Thanks alot for the info.I cannot change my schedule. What would be the best places to visit in and around Duluth(%26lt;=100 miles) for the week of oct 24.I cannot change my schedule being a business trip
What are your interests?
- The drive along Hwy 61 north of Duluth is never a bad choice nor ever out of season. There are several state parks along the way which are right on the hwy - many don%26#39;t require permits if you%26#39;re there less than 2 hours as they are also wayside rests if you feel like a quick hike. If I remember correctly both Tetteguche %26amp; Gooseberry fall in this category.
Be sure to take ';old'; 61 between Duluth %26amp; Two Harobrs.
- Bayfield WI is a neat town about 80 miles to the east.
- The drive on Hwy 23 south from Duluth to Finlayson (which is south of Duluth along I3) along the St. Louis River is (or the reverse if you%26#39;re heading north) is quite beautiful and a wonderful break from the freeway.
By the way, great little breakfast spot is the New London Cafe on east Superior Street %26amp; 47th. Quite a way from downtown but a nice little neighborhood cafe that is quite popular with the locals.
I just want to emphasize what Sully mn mentioned.
From Duluth to Two Harbors, ';new'; 61 is just a freeway with occasional views of Lake Superior off in the distance.
';Old'; 61 runs much closer to the lake, and goes through some small towns. Much more scenic.
BTW, we just returned from Duluth. And aside from yellows and browns, the colors will be done in probably the next week or so. It was slightly past peak this weekend, all the way down to Hinckley, then picked up more reds and oranges in that area on south. The constant rain %26amp; wind on Monday really knocked off many of the northern leaves.
