My husband and I will be staying with our two kids, 8 and 5, at the Westin on November 15 - 18. Are there any cool shops, restaurants or activities for kids in the downtown area? We would love to just walk around for awhile. We are from SD so cooler weather is just fine. Thanks!

The obvious place that comes to mind to keep kids entertained is Block E, which is a complex that houses a movie theater, bowling alley, arcade, ice cream shop, family dining areas, etc. right on Hennepin Avenue (7th Street) -- walkable from the Westin.
If the kids get cranky from your strolls along Nicollet Mall (there%26#39;s always the flagship Target store%26#39;s toy section) or the riverfront area, you could make a bee-line for Block E. Huge arcade and some ice cream should calm them down.

You could check out the construction on the new Twins stadium....depending on sports schedules, a tour of Target Center or the Metrodome might be of interest. Or maybe head back to the Mall of America on the lightrail and enjoy a day there.
You%26#39;re a few blocks away from the renovated Minneapolis ';Depot'; - indoor waterpark %26amp; ice rink.
That might be fun to check out.

Also close by - along the river is the Mill City Museum, part of the MN Historical Society. They have several kid-friendly exhibits %26amp; areas. It%26#39;s a favourate of local school field trips. And there%26#39;s a primo view of the river at the top observation deck.
